If you've recently found out that your wife is expecting, then congratulations! Anyone will tell you that there is nothing that is more special than seeing your baby for the first time. Knowing that you are responsible for bringing such a perfect human being onto this Earth is an incredible feeling.
However, before you get to meet your son or daughter, you should know that there are many things that you can do to ensure that your wife feels loved and supported during her pregnancy, such as:
1) Asking her how she feels
Although she's undoubtedly overjoyed that she's going to be a mom, there are going to certainly be times where she is feeling emotional and even sad. Your job as a husband is to ask her what she thinks about everything. Be her shoulder to cry on and don't tell her that any of her feelings are stupid or unwarranted.
2) Understanding her delivery expectations
Does she want you to bring a camera into the delivery room? Is she comfortable having your mother there too? These are all things that should be discussed before the big day. Certain surprises are welcome (like finding out the gender of your baby), but deciding that you want to bring your family into the room when she's pushing is likely to just cause very unwelcome tension.
3) Changing your habits with her
During prenatal health visits, your wife's OBGYN will certainly tell you that there are certain lifestyle changes that need to take place, for example, cutting out alcohol. If your wife is changing up her everyday habits, you might want to consider doing so as well. It's also a good thing to be in sync with your partner, especially when she's pregnant.
